Our Out and About group does an outing each month to somewhere in or around London –
a museum, or a stately home or other historic building. The focus is on budget outings –
places we can get to fairly easily using public transport, and which are free to go in or only
charge a modest amount for entry (£10 or under). As a general rule, once we’ve arrived
everyone is free to explore as they wish and at their own pace, but occasionally we’ll book a
guided tour or someone will give a talk.

As far as possible we stick to the same slot each month, ie first Thursday afternoon in the
month starting at about 2.00. Outings usually finish with getting together for refreshments (if
there’s not a café at the venue there’s usually one nearby). Inevitably, we sometimes have to
hold the monthly outing on a different day, or at a different time, to fit in with the
arrangements of wherever we’re visiting.

During 2025 we have been to the Museum of the Home shortly after Christmas when the
seasonal displays were still up, the Clink Museum on the site of the old Southwark prison,
Marble Hill House and Kenwood House, and Fulham Palace. We’ve also explored several
historic churches, and enjoyed afternoon tea in the sunshine by Carshalton Ponds while
visiting the Honeywood Museum.
